Bombshelter Press, 1991 216pp

A collection of poems written by students of Jack Grapes during poetry workshops taught at the University of California at Los Angeles Extension program. "Sometimes the most effective poems, the most affecting, are lies that have been pressed into the service of truth."

Connie Hershey deserves much praise for her recognition of this moment in the history of the L.A. scene and her critical ear for poetry. These poems are ferociously sincere, clever, masterful, and honest in tone and content. The poets combine recent L.A. movements into one sometimes seamless whole, linking the academy, those divorced from academia, and themes that echo the Beyond Baroque movement identified with Dennis Cooper, David Trinidad, and Amy Gerstler.
